Jeffrey Landrigan did little in life you'd want to emulate. He was already in jail for second-degree murder in Oklahoma in 1989 when he escaped, went on the lam, and then later strangled a man in Arizona during a robbery. Landrigan then fell into the custody of the State of Arizona, a state that happens to both have the death penalty and also enjoys employing it.
Landrigan found out both of these facts when he was convicted of the murder and sentenced to death by lethal injection, an execution appealed and postponed until yesterday evening. Landrigan had a last meal of steak, fried okra, french fries, strawberry ice cream, and a Dr. Pepper. Then, he said his last words, and in death may have done the one really admirable thing he'll ever do by being a better fan to his football team than you will ever be.
"I'd like to say 'thank you' to my family for being here and all of my friends," were Landrigan's final words, according to Marson. He concluded with "Boomer Sooner," a cheer often used by University of Oklahoma fans.
This isn't the first time murderers and college football allegiance have commingled. After his escape form a Colorado jail Ted Bundy, a wanted man, made sure to watch the entire 1978 Rose Bowl between Michigan and his alma mater the University of Washington Huskies despite being a very wanted man at the time. Nevertheless, the Oklahoma Sooners' marketing staff may have been his final victims, as they likely had small heart attacks when they read this morning that a twice-convicted murderer had made a public and enthusiastic endorsement of their football brand his final words, and that it was number one on Google Trends this morning.
